Group Information

Please Read First:

:iconraindanceplz:Have you, or do you know someone who has, written a book - whether on deviantart or by some means published? Then have a synopsis deviation submitted here! My hope for this group is that it will grow with authors AND readers, to help promote these books and provide writers with feedback. Read below for more information!

:star:This group is for anyone who would like to join, for browsing for/or advertising their books. Requests to join are automatic. Please read our group journals below to find out more information!

:star: Announcement! :star:
We are now accepting prologues into our gallery!!!

Important Group Journals:

Admins and Guidelines!Group Setup & Guidelines:
:star: I believe I have all the Group settings set up properly, if you run into any problems let me know.
Submission Requirements and Folders!
:bulletgreen: All deviants, whether members or not, can currently submit unlimited deviations a day to this group, but are subject to a vote by our admins to ensure your deviation is going to the proper place.
:bulletorange: The Featured Folder is for "About The DEVIANT" (Artist Bio) Submissions ONLY!
See journal for more information.

:bulletgreen: Our Gallery Folders are for BOOK synopsis deviations ONLY!
:star: (Though we are now also accepting Prologues into the gallery as introductions to your stories as well!!!)
:note: Note us if you feel an additional Genre folder is needed.
Any type of work intended to be a book. (Novels, Novellas-(Short Books that are approximately 20,000 - 40,000 words long),
Compilations of short stories that are intended to be a book of short stories, and
Have You Been Hooked? (Group Features)Group Journal Features:
:star: Have you read a synopsis on deviantART that hooked you and left you wanting to read more? Then I'd like to feature it!
:bulletgreen: If you've been hooked, send me a suggestion. Note the group with a link to the deviation and explain why it hooked you.
The deviant's synopsis and your comment about it will be featured in the group's journal.
:bulletgreen: If by happy chance these suggestions become a thing, and a deviation is suggested more than once or after it has already been featured, then the suggester's comment will be dated and added to that feature.
:bulletgreen: I hope that this will encourage deviants to submit their synopsis as deviations and feature previews of the books they want to get out there and have others read!
:star: The deviation does not have to be in this group to be featured. If the author wishes, a request will be sent to join though they don't have to.
The featured deviation will be added to favorites, and requested into o
About The DEVIANT!Featured Folder:
I had an idea. :lightbulb:
:bulletorange: So, we have gallery folders for the synopsis deviations. √
:bulletorange: And I wanted some place to put deviations that get featured if suggested for the "Have You Been Hooked?" Thing. √
Here's the journal for that:

:bulletorange: I'll update that with more info when I get a chance.
So anyway, I decided that featured submissions can just be added to the  favorites folder too.
(I was not even sure if I would have been able to copy something already in a gallery folder into a featured folder also.)
And so, those will be what can be added to favorites. √
:lightbulb: So here's the idea.
I'd like to bring the group together a little bit for one.
And I can't thank you all enough for being a part of it.
So maybe we can do this...
:bulletyellow: You know how artists have a sort of bio?
Or an "About The Author" in the last pages of a book? :giggle:
So lets do that!

Additional Information About Our Goals!

:bulletgreen:My interest in making this group is to see if others want another means of browsing for deviantART writer's books/or for deviantART authors to have another means to share their books.

:bulletgreen:The group's genre folders is for synopsis deviations, ONLY. If you do have a book cover, use it as the cover image on your literature deviation so that readers can see it and read TheBackOfTheBook too!

:bulletgreen:At current, there is no synopsis category when submitting a deviation, but if you'd like to submit your "hook" to lure readers in as a deviation, just put it under which ever genre your book falls under.

:bulletgreen:If you'd like advice on how your synopsis sounds, you might be able to find help here. Submit your deviation to the "Critique My Synopsis" folder and we will try to help.

:bulletgreen:I don't expect this group to get very big, but if others are interested in looking through categories for a story to read on deviantART, like one would do in a bookstore or library, then my goal is for readers to be able to check TheBackOfTheBook here. Help out by joining and encouraging writers and readers to participate!

:bulletgreen:I hope this group can be helpful to the literature community. It might take some time for it to come together. If you have any suggestions to improve this group feel free to note me!

What is Genre?What is Genre?
In the wise words of Mark Z. Danielewski, or at least his words according to Wikipedia which is technically not always a reliable site for information, because anyone can make up what someone has said and add it to the article, (never the less and either way, it's still a good quote):
"In some ways, genre is a marketing tool."
I think that is the best way to describe it. How many times have you read a book that was listed under a specific genre, only to find an array of so many other things it could have been listed as? Or the primary theme of the overall story doesn't even fall under the genere it is listed as?
By Google definition, Genre is:
"A category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter."
Now when we're talking about ART, it is not always such an easy thing to decide how one book filled with pages of writing and information compacted by
What is vision? (and more advice from authors)What is vision?
Just another article I felt like writing for the group that might be useful for writing your stories, and your synopsis. I needed to stretch my fingers and put my thoughts down anyway. ^^
So, what is vision?
Noun: "The faculty or state of being able to see."
Verb: "Imagine"
What is vision in terms of writing?
First, the easy part, your vision of your story is probably already in place brick by brick, with room to build off of for creating and discovering new things to add, or new things to research. (That's the fun part.)
But what is vision to readers? Well that all depends, but one thing you need to make sure of is that your vision is in place on paper.
So how do you do that? You do that first by writing. Write and write, and then you have to go back and read, and read, and read. When you reread your work (and you might have to do it a lot when writing a book :faint:) you must detach yourself from all ideas of it. Put away your vision of it. Everything you alrea

What is a synopsis?

:star:The synopsis is an important part of a writer's book. It's what you need in order to hook agents, publishers, and readers alike.

:note:Definition: [1 : a condensed statement or outline (as of a narrative or treatise) 2 : the abbreviated conjugation of a verb in one person only. Origin of SYNOPSIS - Late Latin, from Greek, literally, comprehensive view... First Known Use: 1603]
- Merriam-Webster online dictionary:…

ACTUAL (back of the book) synopsis examples from popular/professionally published books:

:bulletgreen:"One cruel night, Meggie's father reads aloud from Inkheart, and an evil ruler named Capricorn escapes the boundaries of fiction and lands in their living room. Suddenly, Meggie is in the middle of the kind of adventure she has only read about in books. Meggie must learn to harness the magic that has conjured this nightmare. Only she can change the course of the story that has changed her life forever.

From Cornelia Funke, author of the international bestseller The Thief Lord, comes Inkheart, a timeless tale about books, about imagination, about life.

- INKHEART by Cornelia Funke
(from the back of the book)

:bulletgreen:"In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the North of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kindom's protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcers, assasins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones."

- A Game Of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
(from the back of the book)

:bulletgreen:"Released from prison, Shadow finds his world turned upside down. His wife has been killed; a mysterious stranger offeres him a job. But Mr. Wednesday, who knows more about Shadow than is possible, warns that a storm is coming-a battle for the very soul of America . . . and they are in it's direct path.

One of the most talked about books of the new millenium, American Gods is a kaleidoscope journey deep into myth and across an American landscape at once eerily familiar and utterly alien. It is, quite simply, a contemporary masterpiece."

- American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Thank you for inviting me.

One question: I mostly write fanfiction, and a apart from the occasional poem, I have yet to write anything else I want to publish in any way. Do you accept synopsis for fanfiction, or should I just look for things to read here?
